Taylor Swift’s Songs Helped Iga Swiatek Learn English

Iga Swiatek, the world’s top-ranked female tennis player, revealed that listening to Taylor Swift’s music helped her navigate the challenges of life when she was younger and learn English. Swiatek, who celebrated her 22nd birthday on Wednesday, won her second-round French Open match against Claire Liu 6-4, 6-0 on Thursday. After the game, she signed the camera with “I’m feeling 22! #Swiftie.”

In an interview, Swiatek said that listening to Taylor Swift’s music made her feel less alone when she was younger and confused about life. “Also, I learned English by listening to her songs, so she was always kind of close to me,” said Swiatek. She also shared that the Swift song “22” had been on repeat in her head since her birthday.

Swiatek’s Love for Taylor Swift’s Music

Swiatek, who is a fan of Taylor Swift, said that she loves the two albums “Folklore” and “Evermore.” However, when asked which era she is in, she said it’s hard to say. She did say that “Red,” Swift’s 2012 album, is her favorite. The album featured the singles “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” “I Knew You Were Trouble,” and “22.”

Despite her love for Swift’s music, Swiatek said that she doesn’t listen to her before matches. She prefers to listen to rock music, which gives her energy and pumps her up. “Today was Lenny Kravitz, and usually I’m listening to more rock. Not too hard, but the bands that are kind of mainstream, and they have a lot of energy in their songs,” said Swiatek.

Swiatek’s victory against Liu on Thursday was not easy. She had some nervy moments in the opening set, but she managed to shake them off and power through in style. Swiatek will next play Xinyu Wang in the third round on Saturday.
