Rowdy Tellez to Miss Four Weeks Due to Finger Injury

Milwaukee Brewers first baseman, Rowdy Tellez, will be sidelined for an additional four weeks after undergoing surgery on his left ring finger. The injury occurred during pregame warmups when Tellez got his finger stuck in the padding of the center-field wall while shagging fly balls. As a result, he tore his fingernail off and sustained a small fracture on the end of his finger. The surgery involved inserting 17 stitches to repair the damage. Tellez, who had been on track to make a return on Tuesday in Philadelphia, will now face an extended period of recovery.

Unexpected Setback for Tellez

Brewers manager, Craig Counsell, described the incident as a “freak accident” that happened at a relatively low speed. Despite the innocent nature of the mishap, Tellez’s absence from the team is now projected to last for four weeks. Additionally, it is expected to take him two to three weeks before he can resume baseball activities. The first baseman had already been on the injured list since July 5 due to right forearm inflammation. Tellez’s absence will provide an opportunity for Owen Miller to take on the majority of playing time at first base.

Unlucky Streak at Great American Ball Park

Coincidentally, Tellez’s injury is not the first time a Brewers player has suffered an unfortunate accident at the Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati. On June 2, infielder/designated hitter Darin Ruf cut his knee when he collided with the tarp roller while chasing a foul ball. Brewers manager Craig Counsell jokingly remarked that the team’s trainers are unhappy with the circumstances surrounding their visits to the ballpark.

Injury Woes Continue for Brewers

In addition to Tellez’s setback, the Milwaukee Brewers have faced another blow as third baseman Brian Anderson was placed on the 10-day injured list. Anderson’s lower back strain prompted the decision, which is retroactive to Friday. The team has called up infielder Jahmai Jones from Triple-A Nashville to fill the void left by Anderson. With a batting average of .229, nine home runs, and 38 RBIs in 292 at-bats, Anderson’s absence will be felt by the Brewers.

Despite these injuries, the Milwaukee Brewers will need to regroup and adapt to the absence of Tellez and Anderson. The team will look to other players to step up and fill the gaps as they continue their pursuit of success in the upcoming games.
