Ancelotti Claims Referees Are Too Quick to Book Vinicius Junior

Brazilian forward Vinicius Junior recently received his 10th yellow card of the 2021/22 season in Real Madrid’s 4-2 victory over Almeria on Saturday. After the match, Carlo Ancelotti, the team’s coach, criticized referees for booking Vinicius too quickly. Ancelotti stated that the midfielder with the most yellow cards in the league does not have ten cards, so Vinicius needs to improve. Ancelotti also claimed that referees did not give enough cards for the kicks Vinicius received.

Impact of Complaining

Ancelotti implied that Vinicius’ complaints about his treatment from opponents could be influencing referees’ decisions. He stated that complaining could result in a yellow card, but the referee should be focused on the game and not let a complaint affect their decision-making. The coach emphasized that a referee cannot avoid giving a card because Vinicius has complained.

Front Three Comparison

Madrid’s front three of Vinicius, Karim Benzema and Rodrygo Goes impressed against Almeria, contributing all four goals. Ancelotti was asked how they compare to the club’s legendary trio of Benzema, Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo, who he coached from 2013 to 2015. Ancelotti claimed that both trios are similar in efficiency and quality. Although they have different characteristics, they are similar in terms of how dangerous they are.

Madrid will next travel to Real Sociedad in LaLiga on Tuesday before their Copa del Rey final against Osasuna in Seville next Saturday. Ancelotti stated that he will rest the players who are tired, and Federico Valverde and Dani Carvajal were rested for the Almeria match due to injuries.
