Israel Adesanya Suffers MCL Tear Before Knockout Win

Israel Adesanya, a two-time 185-pound champion, revealed on his YouTube channel that he suffered a Grade 1 MCL tear the week before his fight with Alex Pereira at UFC 287 in Miami. The injury occurred when Adesanya’s leg buckled as a training partner wrestled him to the ground.

Adesanya’s Determination

Despite his injury, Adesanya insisted on fighting and compared it to an injury he had five years ago. He had injured his ankle during his UFC debut, but he refused to pull out of the fight. He had to seek help from a physiotherapist who had to reinjure the ankle to relieve the pain.

Adesanya’s Next Opponent

Adesanya has already identified his next opponent, South African middleweight Dricus Du Plessis. However, Du Plessis will have to defeat former champion Robert Whittaker at UFC 290 in July to set up that fight. UFC president Dana White has already confirmed that the winner of that bout would face Adesanya next.

Adesanya’s Unforgettable Win

Adesanya’s injury did not stop him from earning arguably the biggest win of his career on April 8, knocking out Pereira in the second round with a pair of counter right hands. Pereira had taken the UFC belt from Adesanya in November via fifth-round knockout, but Adesanya reclaimed it.

Adesanya’s fighting spirit and determination were on full display during his fight with Pereira. Despite his MCL tear, Adesanya refused to back down and delivered an unforgettable knockout win.
