76ers Look to Harden to Bounce Back After Second Straight Poor Shooting Game

Following two consecutive losses to the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference semifinals, Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid has encouraged point guard James Harden to maintain his shooting focus. Despite Harden’s recent struggles on the court, Embiid insists that he keep shooting and remain aggressive. Embiid acknowledged that some nights are tougher than others, but that players must find other ways to impact the game. While Harden delivered in Game 1 with a 45-point performance, he has since faltered with a 2-for-14 shooting performance in Game 2 and a 3-for-14 shooting performance in Game 3. This marks the worst two-game output of his entire career, and the Celtics have made a concerted effort to slow him down defensively.

Philadelphia coach Doc Rivers repeatedly emphasized the need for the team to play with more force, particularly driving to the basket, and expressed disappointment with the team’s inability to take advantage of driving lanes. Meanwhile, Harden remained confident in his decision-making, stating that he knows when to score and when to pass. Despite Harden’s struggles, fellow guard Tyrese Maxey also had a rough night, finishing 4-for-16 from the field. As a team, the 76ers shot a dismal 15-for-41 (36.6%) on two-point shots, with the Celtics blocking seven shots.

Embiid acknowledged that the team needs to play better and show up on both ends of the court to stay alive in the series. He accepted the NBA’s MVP award in an emotional pregame ceremony, where his son Arthur ran out to say hello to him. However, Embiid was critical of the team’s lack of urgency and inability to execute, particularly in loose ball situations and on offensive rebounds. The 76ers will need to make adjustments and execute better if they hope to bounce back in Game 4.
