New York Knicks Advance to Eastern Conference Semifinals for First Time in 10 Years

The New York Knicks are heading to the Eastern Conference semifinals for the first time in a decade after beating the Cleveland Cavaliers 106-95 in Game 5 of their first-round series. Knicks guard Jalen Brunson led the way, scoring 23 points and making four assists and four rebounds. Meanwhile, RJ Barrett had another strong performance, scoring 21 points.

Defense and Depth Prove Key

As the series progressed, it was clear that the Knicks were a deep team that played with a strong defensive edge. In his first playoff series, Knicks swingman Josh Hart made a huge difference off the bench, making a series of winning plays. Mitchell Robinson was also a force down low against the Cavs, and the Knicks outrebounded them 48-30 in Game 5.

Uncertainty Surrounding Randle’s Ankle

The Knicks were able to close out the series without All-Star forward Julius Randle, who reinjured his left ankle late in the second quarter of Game 5. Randle will be reevaluated on Thursday, and his status for the next series is uncertain. The Knicks will face the winner of the Milwaukee Bucks-Miami Heat series, which could potentially set up an interesting matchup between Thibodeau and former player Jimmy Butler.
