Casper Ruud’s Title Run Ends in Quarterfinals at Geneva Open

Casper Ruud’s quest for a third consecutive Geneva Open title came to an end on Thursday with a 3-6, 7-6 (2), 7-5 loss to Nicolas Jarry in the quarterfinals. Ruud, who is seeded No. 4 for the French Open, was leading 5-5 in the third set when Jarry broke his serve. Jarry held his serve and won the match on his second match-point opportunity with an overhead smash winner. Ruud now looks towards the French Open, where he won the warm-up event in 2021 and 2020 and reached the final in 2020 only to lose to Rafael Nadal.

Zverev Advances to Semifinals with Easy Victory

Alexander Zverev, the 2019 Geneva Open winner, will face Jarry in the semifinals after a straightforward quarterfinal victory. The third-seeded German was leading 4-1 in the first set when Wu Yibing of China retired with an injury. Zverev remains unbeaten at the Geneva Open, having won all six of his matches at the lakeside park venue.

Taylor Fritz and Grigor Dimitrov to Meet in Other Semifinal

In the other semifinal, second-seeded Taylor Fritz will take on fourth-seeded Grigor Dimitrov. Fritz dominated his quarterfinal match, defeating Ilya Ivashka 6-1, 6-2 in just 51 minutes. Dimitrov had a tougher time, coming back from a set down to beat Christopher O’Connell 6-7 (5), 7-5, 6-4 in nearly two and a half hours.

Dimitrov and Zverev Receive Wild Cards for Geneva Open

Both Dimitrov and Zverev received wild cards for the Geneva Open to prepare for the French Open. Zverev’s dominant performance at the tournament bodes well for his chances at Roland Garros, while Dimitrov’s comeback victory shows his resilience and determination on the court. As for Ruud, he will look to put his quarterfinal defeat behind him and make a strong showing at the French Open.
