Paul Goldschmidt’s Three Homers End Cardinals’ Eight-Game Losing Streak

The St. Louis Cardinals ended their eight-game losing streak – their longest in 16 years – with a 12-6 win over the Detroit Tigers on Sunday. The game was highlighted by Paul Goldschmidt’s three-homer performance.

Goldschmidt had four hits and four RBIs in the game, marking his third three-homer game. His solo home runs in the first and third innings were followed by a two-run drive in the eighth, making him the fifth player in franchise history to have multiple three-homer games.

Moreover, all three of Goldschmidt’s home runs came with two strikes. Despite this challenge, Goldschmidt displayed exceptional plate discipline throughout the game.

Manager’s Praise for Goldschmidt’s Performance

St. Louis manager Oliver Marmol praised Goldschmidt’s game plan and focus, stating that “the guy has a really good game plan, and he sticks with it. Pretty remarkable, very productive.”

Goldschmidt added that he always tries to hit the ball hard, but there’s always a little adjustment with two strikes. He further stated that “sometimes, it works out like today, and other times they strike you out three times.”

Cardinals’ Struggle This Season

The Cardinals have only won two of their 12 series this season, and their record stands at 11-24. However, Sunday’s win provided a much-needed morale boost for the team.

Brendan Donovan, who hit a three-run home run in the game, stated that “this team does not quit. We’re not where we want to be as far as wins and losses or how we’ve played to this point. Today shows you that we still have fight.”

Other Highlights of the Game

Although the Tigers’ five-game winning streak was stopped, they still had some impressive moments in the game. Jake Rogers hit a grand slam, and Spencer Torkelson also homered for Detroit.

However, Goldschmidt’s performance was undoubtedly the highlight of the game, ending the Cardinals’ losing streak and providing a much-needed boost for the team.
