Alonso Admits Red Bull is Still Ahead, But Aims to Be in Position to Take Advantage

Fernando Alonso has achieved his fourth third-place finish in five races at the Miami Grand Prix. However, he admitted that he feels a hunger to start delivering better results.

Realistic Expectations for Aston Martin

Instead of setting unrealistic expectations, Alonso believes that Aston Martin needs to accept that Red Bull is still a clear step ahead. He acknowledges that Red Bull is stronger, faster, and has achieved outstanding reliability in every race, finishing both cars in every race.

‘Crack’ in Red Bull’s Performance

Although Alonso has been able to match the pace of Red Bull in some race stints, its rival still has a clear margin over the full grand prix distance. However, he believes that at some point, Red Bull will get it wrong, and it is essential that Aston Martin is therefore in the position to make the most of it. Alonso aims to step one step higher on the podium for P2 and eventually win a race.

Potential for Improvement Later in the Campaign

Alonso thinks that it is too early to believe that Aston Martin can find a step forward in pace to challenge the world champion squad just yet. However, he suggests that things could be different later in the campaign. He believes that the year is going to be difficult and that the gap between Red Bull and Aston Martin is quite big. Alonso hopes that some of the tracks will be a little bit closer to Red Bull, and some of the upgrades that they will bring later in the season may put them in a different or more competitive position.

Alonso’s main focus is to look behind and try to keep Mercedes and Ferrari in the constructors’ championship under control. He accepts that Red Bull is doing a better job than everyone else, and they need to do a better job. Alonso believes that if there is a crack in Red Bull’s performance, they need to make sure they are in that position and still not making mistakes at any point in the weekend.
