American Men Out of French Open as Zverev Beats Tiafoe

Alexander Zverev, the 22nd seeded German player, secured his place in the fourth round of the French Open after defeating 12th seeded American Frances Tiafoe in a match that lasted over three and a half hours. Tiafoe came close to forcing a fifth set on twelve occasions, but was unable to do so. Zverev won the match 3-6, 7-6 (3), 6-1, 7-6 (5). Tiafoe was disappointed with the loss and felt he was in control of the match for most of the time.

No American Men Left in the Tournament

With Tiafoe’s defeat, all 16 American men who started the tournament have been eliminated. Earlier on Saturday, Taylor Fritz and Marcos Giron were both beaten by Francisco Cerundolo of Argentina and Nicolas Jarry of Chile respectively. In contrast, there are still three American women remaining in the tournament: Coco Gauff, Sloane Stephens, and Bernarda Pera.

No Grand Slam Title for American Men Since 2003

It is the second year in a row that no American men have reached the fourth round of the French Open, a symbolic step back for the group after what appeared to be a couple of breakthrough showings at the past two majors. In a post-match interview, Tiafoe expressed his desire to win the trophy rather than to reach the fourth round. No American man has won a Grand Slam title since Andy Roddick at the 2003 US Open.

Zhang Zhizhen’s Strong Run Ends

Casper Ruud, the fourth-seeded player from Norway, came from behind to beat Zhang Zhizhen of China 4-6, 6-4, 6-1, 6-4 to reach the fourth round of the French Open. Zhang was the first Chinese man to reach the third round at Roland Garros since Kho Sin-Khie in 1937. Despite a lightning start on Court Suzanne Lenglen, Zhang was unable to maintain his early momentum and eventually lost the match.

Conclusion

The French Open has seen some surprising results so far, with no American men reaching the fourth round of the tournament and Zhang Zhizhen’s strong run coming to an end. As the tournament progresses, fans will be eagerly watching to see who will emerge as the eventual winners.
