Conor McGregor accused of sexual assault at NBA Finals game

Conor McGregor, the former UFC featherweight and lightweight champion, has been accused of sexually assaulting a woman during Game 4 of the NBA Finals in Miami last week. The woman alleges that McGregor “violently” forced himself on her in a VIP men’s bathroom at Kaseya Center, “aggressively kissed her” and attempted to force her into multiple sexual acts. The woman claims that Miami Heat and NBA security aided McGregor in the attack by separating her from her friend and forcing her into the bathroom.

Law enforcement and possible litigation

The woman immediately contacted law enforcement and her law firm after the alleged attack, according to a letter sent to McGregor and his team by attorney Ariel Mitchell, who is representing the woman. Mitchell also sent legal letters to the Heat and the NBA. The letter warned of possible litigation and called for McGregor to preserve all potential evidence. The Miami Police Department declined comment on any potential investigation into the accusations against McGregor.

UFC statement and previous accusations

UFC issued a statement saying it was aware of the allegations against McGregor and that it “will continue to gather additional details regarding the incident. UFC will allow the legal process to play out before making any additional statements.” McGregor has been accused of sexual assault four previous times outside the United States, although he has not faced any legal punishment and at least one case was dropped. McGregor’s attorney Barbara Llanes denied the allegations and said, “Mr. McGregor will not be intimidated.”

McGregor was at the game as a guest of the NBA and the Heat, who were playing the Denver Nuggets in the Finals. During halftime of Game 4, McGregor took part in a skit to promote a recovery spray in which he punched Heat mascot Burnie twice. The Heat and NBA both acknowledged the woman’s allegations in statements and are conducting full investigations. Pending the outcome of the investigation, they will withhold further comment.

McGregor is the biggest money-making star in mixed martial arts history, taking part in several of the highest-selling pay-per-view events ever, including a 2017 boxing match with Floyd Mayweather. McGregor has been recovering from a broken leg since July 2021 and is a coach on the current season of “The Ultimate Fighter,” which was filmed in Las Vegas earlier this year.
