Emma Raducanu to Miss French Open and Wimbledon Due to Injury

Emma Raducanu, the former U.S. Open champion, announced on Wednesday that she will be unable to compete in this year’s French Open and Wimbledon Championships. The British tennis player recently underwent surgery on her wrists and ankle and said she will need several months to recover from her recurring bone injuries.

Raducanu shared on Twitter that her last 10 months have been challenging due to the recurring injury to the bones in both of her hands. She is scheduled to have a minor procedure on both hands to address the problem and another minor procedure on her ankle.

Struggles for Form and Fitness

Raducanu’s latest injury setback comes after a series of struggles with form and fitness. Since her fairytale run to the title at Flushing Meadows in 2021 as an 18-year-old qualifier, she has been unable to maintain her momentum.

The Brit withdrew from the Madrid Open last month, and her ranking in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) will likely fall outside the top 100 for the first time since her breakthrough victory in New York. Raducanu also struggled in the first round in Miami and Stuttgart and lost to Coco Gauff in straight sets in the second round of the Australian Open.

Raducanu expressed her disappointment at missing the summer events and thanked her fans for supporting her throughout her struggles. Despite the setbacks, the former U.S. Open champion remains optimistic and determined to return to top form as soon as possible.
