Russell suggested that the blanket-free tyres may have been flattered by the high temperatures and track characteristics at Barcelona. He believes that the tyres would be difficult to manage in colder conditions, especially during pit stops and out laps. Fernando Alonso, who used tyres without blankets in his Indianapolis 500 campaigns, said that he is not a fan of removing the blankets. He believes that it depends on the specific circuit and the amount of energy put into the tyres. He suggested that some circuits would make things very difficult without the blankets.
