IndyCar driver Ferrucci excited for Detroit’s new street course layout

IndyCar driver Santino Ferrucci has expressed his excitement for the new street course layout in Detroit. Ferrucci took some laps around the circuit in his Chevrolet Tahoe SUV during the off-season and described the 1.7-mile, nine-turn circuit as “phenomenal”. He particularly highlighted the huge straight on one of Detroit’s most famous streets, Jefferson Avenue, and the unique split pitlane, which is a first for IndyCar. Ferrucci also commented on the bumpy ride during his hot lap in the Tahoe and said he couldn’t imagine what it would be like in the IndyCar. Despite this, he believes that the straight, which is longer than the one at the IndyGP, will provide for some great racing.

Ferrucci’s opinion on the circuit’s similarities to other tracks

Ferrucci compared the new Detroit track to Long Beach, saying that he thinks it will run more like it than Belle Isle. He highlighted the challenge of Belle Isle’s multiple different types of pavement, including concrete, old stuff, and new stuff, compared to the repaved streets of Detroit. Ferrucci also noted that the track is wider than people might expect and will be very fast, potentially running more like a pre-series race, such as Baltimore or Houston. He is excited about the dual pit lane, which he hasn’t seen before, and thinks it will really change things up. However, Ferrucci also acknowledged that there are many unknowns going into this event and hopes they get the race distance right with the strategy.

Ferrucci’s lack of experience on the circuit

Ferrucci hasn’t been able to virtually sample the track in Chevy’s simulator as his team, the Foyt squad, is too low down its pecking order. He stated that they are one of the few teams that don’t have the simulator, as it is allotted to some of the top teams who book their days out in advance. Ferrucci will not be able to see it virtually or run it until practice on Friday. Despite this, Ferrucci is still excited about the new circuit and believes that having taken some laps there in the Tahoe, it’s definitely a lot of fun. Ferrucci hopes that the new Detroit track will live up to the entertainment level of Belle Isle and provide some great racing for the fans.

In summary, Ferrucci is excited about the new street course layout in Detroit and believes that it will provide for some great racing. He is particularly excited about the dual pit lane and the challenge of the wider, bumpy track. Despite not being able to virtually sample the track in Chevy’s simulator, Ferrucci is still looking forward to the new circuit and believes that it will be a lot of fun.
