Los Angeles Dodgers Pitcher Julio Urías Arrested for Domestic Altercation

Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Julio Urías has once again found himself in legal trouble after being arrested following a physical altercation between a man and a woman outside a Major League Soccer stadium. The incident, which occurred on Sunday night, has raised concerns about Urías’ behavior and has resulted in him being placed on administrative leave by Major League Baseball.

According to the arrest report released by the Department of Public Safety, Urías’ arrest took place on South Hoover Street outside BMO Stadium in Exposition Park, south of downtown Los Angeles. A patrol of DPS officers, who were on duty after the Inter Miami vs. LAFC soccer match, were contacted by an anonymous witness who reported the physical altercation between Urías and the woman. After speaking to the individuals involved, the officers determined that a physical altercation had indeed occurred, leading to Urías’ arrest on suspicion of corporal injury on a spouse or cohabitant.

Video Evidence

In a surprising turn of events, it was revealed by DPS assistant chief Chris Carr that a civilian captured the incident on a cell phone. This video evidence is now in the possession of law enforcement and could play a crucial role in the ongoing investigation. The existence of video footage raises questions about the severity of the altercation and could potentially lead to more charges being filed against Urías.

Legal Consequences

Following his arrest, Urías posted $50,000 bail and was released the next day. He is scheduled to appear in court on September 27 to face charges related to the incident. The Department of Public Safety is currently conducting the investigation and is urging any additional witnesses to come forward with information.

In response to Urías’ arrest, Major League Baseball imposed an indefinite administrative leave on the pitcher. Under the league’s joint domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse policy, players can be placed on leave as a preliminary step towards a potential suspension. While on administrative leave, players are paid but cannot participate in any games.

Past Incident

This is not Urías’ first brush with the law regarding domestic violence. In May 2019, he was arrested for domestic battery and subsequently suspended for 20 games by MLB. However, he was not prosecuted by the Los Angeles city attorney on the condition that he complete a domestic violence counseling program. It is worth noting that no player has ever been suspended twice under MLB’s joint domestic violence policy.

The recent arrest of Julio Urías has once again brought the issue of domestic violence within professional sports into the spotlight. The outcome of the ongoing investigation and any potential legal consequences for Urías remain uncertain. However, it is clear that this incident raises concerns about the player’s behavior and may have significant implications for his career in the MLB.
