Los Angeles Dodgers to Call Up Top Prospects for Injured Pitching Rotation

The Los Angeles Dodgers are turning to their top prospects to help fill the void left by injured pitchers in their rotation. Right-hander Gavin Stone and right-hander Bobby Miller from Triple-A Oklahoma City are expected to be called up to join the team.

Opportunity for Young Pitchers

Dodgers Manager Dave Roberts confirmed that Stone, the team’s No. 4 prospect, will make his second career start on Monday night against the Atlanta Braves. Although Roberts did not officially announce it, multiple outlets report that Miller, the Dodgers’ top pitching prospect and No. 2 overall prospect, will make his major league debut on Tuesday.

Roberts acknowledged that it’s not the situation the team expected to be in but emphasized the opportunity for the young pitchers. “It’s a great opportunity for these young pitchers,” Roberts said. “They’re both talented. It’s not what we expected. But that doesn’t really matter. The only way to look at it is, you’ve got to embrace this opportunity for these guys.”

Injured Pitchers

The Dodgers currently lead the National League West, but injuries to their pitching rotation have been a setback. Right-hander Dustin May was placed on the 15-day injured list on Thursday due to a right forearm strain. Left-hander Julio Urias also joined the list on Saturday due to a hamstring injury.

Prospects’ Stats

Stone made his MLB debut on May 3 against the Philadelphia Phillies and threw four innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on eight hits with two walks and a strikeout. At Oklahoma City, the 24-year-old has a 4.04 ERA, with 19 walks and 41 strikeouts in 35 2/3 innings over eight starts. He was a fifth-round draft pick in 2020.

Miller, who is also 24 years old, was drafted in the first round by the Dodgers in 2020. He has started four games at Oklahoma City and has a 5.65 ERA with six walks and 12 strikeouts in 14 1/3 innings.

In summary, with the loss of two pitchers to the injured list, the Los Angeles Dodgers are turning to their top prospects to help fill the void. Stone and Miller are both talented young pitchers who will have the opportunity to showcase their skills in the major leagues.
