The Los Angeles Kings have signed Vladislav Gavrikov, one of the top defensemen who would have been available in free agency, to a two-year contract extension. The deal secures Gavrikov’s future with the Kings through the 2024-25 season.
The Contract Details
Gavrikov’s contract has an average annual value of $5.875 million, with most of the payment coming in the form of signing bonuses. The contract also includes a no-movement clause, ensuring that Gavrikov will remain with the Kings for the duration of the contract.
Gavrikov’s Performance
Gavrikov, who was acquired in a trade-deadline deal with the Columbus Blue Jackets, had 19 points in 72 games between the Kings and the Blue Jackets last season. He is known for his physical defense and averaged 21:58 in ice time per game. He played alongside defensemen Drew Doughty and Matt Roy with the Kings.
The Three-Way Trade
The Kings set up Gavrikov’s contract extension with a three-way trade involving the Columbus Blue Jackets and Philadelphia Flyers. They sent defenseman Sean Walker and goalie Cal Petersen to the Flyers for defenseman Ivan Provorov, and then traded Provorov to the Blue Jackets for veteran defenseman Kevin Connauton. The trade opened up over $4.8 million in additional cap space for the Kings.
