Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has expressed his satisfaction with the current squad, even if the club fails to make any further signings before the transfer deadline. Despite spending over £320 million on 10 players, Chelsea has been linked with possible moves for Arsenal’s Emile Smith Rowe and Nottingham Forest’s Brennan Johnson. Pochettino, however, stated that he is content with the team at hand and believes that additional signings are not necessary to improve the squad.
In addition to potential new signings, several players may depart from Chelsea before the transfer deadline. It is expected that Romelu Lukaku will join Roma on loan, while Callum Hudson-Odoi and Marc Cucurella are among other fringe players who could potentially leave. Pochettino acknowledges the possibility of these departures but remains focused on the players currently available.
Pochettino emphasized his focus on the upcoming EFL Cup second-round match against AFC Wimbledon, expressing his desire to recover injured players and concentrate on the game. He acknowledged the club’s efforts to secure potential signings but made it clear that his attention is primarily on the present moment.
While Pochettino understands that the transfer window is nearing its end, he remains hopeful that the club can fulfill the team’s needs. Although no significant developments have occurred yet, he hinted that there might still be some activity before the deadline. However, he refrained from speculating on potential player moves and emphasized that all current squad members are part of the club’s plans.
Reflecting on the transfer window, Pochettino expressed his belief that it should be shortened in the future. He acknowledged the benefits it has brought to Chelsea in terms of significant squad turnover but also recognized that the extended duration can be overwhelming for clubs operating in different circumstances. Pochettino stated that, for now, the current duration has been advantageous to Chelsea’s process and goals.
Pochettino provided updates on injured players within the squad. Armando Broja and Benoit Badiashile are expected to be sidelined until after the international break due to knee and hamstring injuries, respectively. Mykhailo Mudryk, who recently suffered a minor muscular problem, will be assessed day by day to determine his availability.
