Nevada State Athletic Commission Suspends Eight Fighters and Fines Devin Haney

Devin Haney, the undisputed boxing lightweight champion, was fined $25,000 by the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) for shoving Vasyl Lomachenko during the weigh-in for their fight on May 19. The NSAC took the fine from the $400,000 that had been withheld from Haney’s purse. The rest of the money will be distributed to Haney, who won the bout by unanimous decision.

Suspensions for Failed Drug Tests

The NSAC suspended eight fighters on Tuesday for failed drug tests. Alberto Puello was temporarily suspended earlier this year for a failed drug test for the banned substance clomiphene and was suspended for six months. Seven Professional Fighters League (PFL) fighters were also suspended for failing drug tests during the promotion’s regular season.

Rob Wilkinson, PFL’s 2022 light heavyweight champion, was suspended for nine months and fined $7,500 for testing positive for an elevated testosterone-to-epitestosterone level due to the presence of a steroid. Rizvan Kuniev and Mohammad Fakhreddine received one-year suspensions. Kuniev tested positive for three different anabolic steroids and a stimulant. Fakhreddine tested positive for two steroids and a banned hormone modulator. Kuniev was fined $9,000 and Fakhreddine was fined $6,000.

Cezar Ferreira, Will Fleury, and Daniel Torres were also suspended for nine months. Ferreira tested positive for clomiphene and a steroid, Fleury tested positive for the steroid drostanolone, and Torres tested positive for drostanolone and an amphetamine. Ferreira was fined $3,000, while Fleury and Torres were fined $2,250 and $2,500, respectively. Torres’ suspension and fine were reduced due to providing medical documentation for the substances.

Thiago Santos, a former UFC title challenger, received a six-month suspension and a $1,500 fine for testing positive for clomiphene.

Removal from PFL’s 2023 Season

Ten PFL fighters failed drug tests during the promotion’s regular season, which featured three events in Las Vegas. All of those fighters have since been removed from PFL’s 2023 season.

The NSAC’s monthly meeting resulted in eight suspensions for boxing and mixed martial arts fighters and a hefty fine for Devin Haney. The suspensions were mainly due to failed drug tests, while Haney’s fine was for shoving Vasyl Lomachenko during a weigh-in. The NSAC is committed to ensuring the safety and fairness of combat sports and will continue to take action against those who violate its rules.
