New York Jets to Play Aaron Rodgers Era Debut on Monday Night Football Against Buffalo Bills

The New York Jets will face the Buffalo Bills on September 11, the 22nd anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The game will be played at MetLife Stadium and will be broadcast on ESPN’s “Monday Night Football.” This is a highly anticipated game as it marks the beginning of the Aaron Rodgers era for the Jets.

The Jets are led by coach Robert Saleh and are entering their third season. This will be their first Monday night appearance under Saleh’s leadership. The Jets’ last Monday night game was on September 11, 2011, where they beat the Dallas Cowboys.

The Challenge

The Bills are the defending AFC East champions and went undefeated in prime-time games last season. They have dominated their recent series against the Jets, although the Jets did manage to win at home last season, snapping a five-game losing streak to their longtime rival.

Rodgers and the Jets face a tough challenge against the Bills who are led by quarterback Josh Allen. The head-to-head series between Rodgers and Allen is 1-1, with the Bills defeating Rodgers’ Green Bay Packers last season. For his career, Rodgers is 2-2 against the Bills, with only five touchdown passes and four interceptions.

The Jets have the longest active playoff drought in the league at 12 years, but with the acquisition of Rodgers, they are suddenly a hot ticket and figure to receive several prime-time games. The Jets have lost seven straight games in prime time, with their last prime-time win being the 2018 opener against the Detroit Lions on “Monday Night Football.”

The NFL will release the full schedule for the upcoming season at 8 p.m. on Thursday. The Jets are also set to play in the NFL’s first-ever Black Friday game on November 24 against the Dolphins with a kickoff slated for 3 p.m. ET.
