No Charges Filed Following Investigation into Altercation involving Britney Spears and NBA Player Victor Wembanyama

Las Vegas police announced on Friday that no charges will be filed after conducting a brief investigation into the altercation between pop star Britney Spears, San Antonio Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama, and a member of the player’s security team. The police reviewed surveillance footage of the incident, which revealed that Spears inadvertently hit herself in the face when a security guard pushed her hand away. Spears had filed a police report, alleging battery and claiming that she was struck in the face by the security guard when she approached Wembanyama near a restaurant at the ARIA hotel and casino on Wednesday night.

Conflicting Accounts of the Incident

According to a copy of the police report obtained by ESPN, Spears noticed Wembanyama and attempted to tap him on the shoulder. Cade Hudson, Spears’ manager, also informed the police that a member of Wembanyama’s security team struck Spears in the face, causing her glasses to fall off. However, a member of Spears’ security team described the physical interaction as the pop star’s hand being pushed off Wembanyama, explaining that it was a standard response by security personnel.

Wembanyama’s Statement and Security Precautions

Wembanyama stated on Thursday that an individual had grabbed him from behind, and he later discovered it was Spears. He mentioned that security had advised him not to stop for anyone as he entered the restaurant, as pausing could attract attention and lead to a crowd forming. Wembanyama clarified that he was walking with security in a crowded hall when someone called out to him. He continued walking without observing what happened but knew that the security personnel had pushed the person away. He emphasized that he did not stop to investigate, but proceeded to enjoy a pleasant dinner.

Spears’ Response and Desire for an Apology

Spears addressed the incident in an Instagram story, expressing that it was “super embarrassing to share with the world but it’s out there already.” She contradicted Wembanyama’s account, asserting that she simply tapped him on the shoulder. Spears expressed her disappointment in not receiving a public apology from the player, his security team, or their organization, while hoping that they would rectify the situation.

The police report detailed that a member of Wembanyama’s security team approached Spears during her dinner to apologize, and a member of Spears’ security team confirmed that both sides apologized for the misunderstanding.

Wembanyama is scheduled to make his NBA summer league debut with the San Antonio Spurs on Friday night in Las Vegas, where they will face the Charlotte Hornets.
