Ousted AlphaTauri Driver De Vries Reflects on Disappointing F1 Season

Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko made the decision to remove Nyck de Vries from his AlphaTauri seat after just 10 races into his debut season. De Vries struggled to match the performance of his teammate Yuki Tsunoda, leading to his replacement. Daniel Ricciardo, Red Bull’s third driver, was chosen to fill the void left by De Vries. Ricciardo had impressed his parent team during a Pirelli test at Silverstone and joined the Faenza squad on loan.

De Vries Breaks Silence on Social Media

After eight days of silence, Nyck de Vries took to social media to address his dismissal from Formula 1. Expressing his gratitude towards Red Bull and AlphaTauri for the opportunity, De Vries also revealed his disappointment at his short-lived F1 career. Despite the setback, he acknowledged that life is a journey and sometimes one must take the difficult path to achieve their goals. De Vries expressed his appreciation for the support he received from fans and looked forward to the future.

Marko’s Decision and De Vries’ Performance

Helmut Marko explained his decision to remove De Vries, citing a lack of improvement in the driver’s performance. Despite De Vries’ prior success as a champion in Formula 2 and Formula E, Marko expected him to be on par with Tsunoda from the beginning of the season. However, De Vries consistently lagged behind his teammate by three tenths of a second, leading Marko to take action. Marko emphasized that De Vries is a likable person but lacked the necessary speed on the track.

Ricciardo Excited for F1 Comeback

Daniel Ricciardo, who had spent half a season as Red Bull’s third driver after leaving McLaren at the end of 2022, expressed his enthusiasm for his F1 comeback. Ricciardo had taken some time off to recover from his challenging tenure with McLaren. After participating in simulation sessions, Ricciardo felt reinvigorated and ready to return to the sport he loves. He eagerly accepted the opportunity to join AlphaTauri and looked forward to the upcoming Hungarian Grand Prix.

In summary, Nyck de Vries’ stint with AlphaTauri came to an early end due to his inability to match his teammate’s performance. Despite expressing disappointment, De Vries remained optimistic about the future and thanked his supporters for their encouragement. Helmut Marko justified his decision by highlighting De Vries’ lack of improvement throughout the season. Meanwhile, Daniel Ricciardo eagerly embraced the chance to return to Formula 1 and was excited to make his comeback with AlphaTauri.
