Pedrosa Reflects on Successful Wildcard Appearance at Jerez

Last weekend, retired MotoGP rider Dani Pedrosa made his second wildcard appearance as a KTM test rider at Jerez. Despite not having participated in a grand prix weekend since 2021, Pedrosa topped FP1, ended Friday in third place, qualified sixth, finished sixth in the sprint, and placed seventh in the grand prix.

Pedrosa Overwhelmed by Support from Fans and Riders

After the grand prix, Pedrosa expressed his gratitude for the support he received from fans and riders during the pre-race rider parade. He revealed that he was almost brought to tears during the parade due to the incredible reception he received. Pedrosa acknowledged the difficulty of competing against and supporting a rival, but he appreciated the kindness of his fellow riders.

Pedrosa Open to Future Wildcard Appearances

Under current regulations, Pedrosa could make two more wildcard appearances in 2023, but he has no plans to do so at the moment. He praised his team and the KTM factory for their efforts in improving their performance over time. Although he is happy with their progress, he recognizes the importance of giving younger riders a chance. However, if they need to race in Misano to continue improving the bike, he is open to the idea.

Pedrosa Adapting to Changes in MotoGP

The Spanish GP was Pedrosa’s first experience with the sprint format, and the red flags in both contests meant there were four race starts. The 31-time race winner admits he is “much more rusty” than he used to be and noticed a decline in his “spark” on Sunday. Pedrosa recognizes the importance of adapting to changes in MotoGP and acknowledges that younger riders may have an advantage in this regard.

In conclusion, Pedrosa had a successful wildcard appearance at Jerez, impressing fans and riders alike. He remains open to future wildcard appearances but recognizes the importance of giving younger riders a chance. Pedrosa also acknowledges the need to adapt to changes in MotoGP and stay competitive in a sport that is constantly evolving.
