Porsche driver Laurens Vanthoor sets fastest time in night session at Le Mans

In the night session at the Le Mans 24 Hours, Laurens Vanthoor set the fastest time in his Porsche 963 LMDh with just over 30 minutes remaining. He beat Ferrari driver James Calado’s mark by three-tenths of a second with a time of 3m29.157s. This put him ahead of Calado, who had set a time of 3m29.225s at the start of the session. Dane Cameron of Porsche took third position with a time of 3m29.307s. Cadillac’s Earl Bamber came in fourth with a time of 3m29.545s. Kamui Kobayashi of Toyota jumped to fifth place at the end of the session with a time of 3m29.624s.

Prema ORECA-Gibson 07 takes the lead

Mirko Bortolotti took the top spot in the LMP2 class in his Prema ORECA-Gibson 07 with just minutes to spare. He posted a time of 3m36.863s, two-tenths faster than Filipe Albuquerque of United Autosports, who finished in second place with a time of 3m37.079s. Pietro Fittipaldi of Jota ORECA was pushed to third place after leading the class for most of the session.

Kei Cozzolino of Kessel Ferrari set the fastest time in the GTE Am class with a time of 3m53.796s in his CarGuy-backed Ferrari 488 GTE Evo. He beat Iron Lynx Porsche driver Alessio Picariello into second place by three-tenths of a second.

The WEC cars will return to the track for three hours of free practice on Thursday at 15:00 local time, with the half-hour Hyperpole session starting at 20:00. The Porsche team is currently in good form, having taken the top three spots in the recent WEC race. It remains to be seen whether they can maintain their lead and come out on top at Le Mans.
