Regis Prograis Prepared for Homecoming Title Defense

Regis Prograis is all set to defend his WBC junior welterweight title against Danielito Zorrilla on Saturday at the Smoothie Center in New Orleans. Prograis, who hails from the city known as “The Big Easy,” is excited to fight in front of his hometown fans. He confirmed that he is physically prepared for the bout, thanks to his rigorous training regime.

Prograis has spent a significant amount of time training in gyms to prepare for this fight. “We actually started in Houston, then we came here for a few weeks, and then we went back to Houston, and now we’re back here (in New Orleans). This fight, it went real fast, and everything was smooth, and it was good, a real good camp,” Prograis said.

The 28-1 Prograis has managed to maintain a perfect record, except for a single close decision loss to Josh Taylor in 2019. His impressive performances have caught the attention of Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn. Prograis has joined Hearn’s stable of fighters, and he is delighted to be a part of it. “Eddie just naturally got that European English charm. It just felt like I’m more of a priority over here with Matchroom. Eddie actually flew to me (unlike other promotional outlets who would have Prograis fly to them),” Prograis said.

If Prograis wins the fight against Zorrilla as expected, he could face several big-name opponents, including the recently retired Teofimo Lopez. However, Prograis is determined to remain focused on the task at hand and not get sidetracked. “I don’t want to focus on nobody but myself. People get sidetracked a lot. At the end of the day, I still have a dude in front of me who wants to take my belt,” he said.

Prograis is not nervous about fighting in front of his hometown crowd. He knows that he has a responsibility as a local hero to entertain his fans. “It’s no pressure. This is what I enjoy…if I get him hurt then I’ll get him out of there, but if not then I can box, I can do my thing,” he said.
