Texas Rangers Make History with Five Position Players Starting in All-Star Game

The Texas Rangers are set to make history in the upcoming All-Star Game, becoming the first team in 47 years to have five position players starting in the game. This remarkable feat was made possible when Adolis Garcia was selected on Friday as an injury replacement for the American League lineup.

AL Team Changes

Joining Garcia in the AL team are Baltimore Orioles outfielder Austin Hays and Los Angeles Angels pitcher Carlos Estevez, who have also been named as injury replacements. They will be taking the spots of New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge, Angels outfielder Mike Trout, and Cleveland Guardians pitcher Emmanuel Clase.

NL Team Change

On the National League side, Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop Geraldo Perdomo will be replacing Chicago Cubs shortstop Dansby Swanson as an injury replacement.

Rangers’ Dominant Presence

With Garcia’s inclusion, the Texas Rangers will now have a total of five position players in the AL lineup for the All-Star Game. Alongside Garcia, the other Rangers players are catcher Jonah Heim, second baseman Marcus Semien, shortstop Corey Seager, and third baseman Josh Jung. The remaining non-Rangers players in the lineup are Tampa Bay first baseman Yandy Díaz, outfielder Randy Arozarena, Angels designated hitter Shohei Ohtani, and Austin Hays.

This remarkable achievement by the Texas Rangers makes them only the fourth team in history to have five position players starting in the All-Star Game. The previous teams to achieve this were the 1939 Yankees, as well as the 1956, 1957, and 1976 Cincinnati Reds.

Injury Woes for Judge and Trout
Aaron Judge, who plays for the New York Yankees, has been sidelined since June 3rd due to a torn ligament in his right big toe. The injury occurred when he crashed into a bullpen gate while making a catch at Dodger Stadium.

Furthermore, Mike Trout, the star outfielder for the Los Angeles Angels, fractured his left wrist while fouling off a pitch on Monday. He underwent surgery for the injury on Wednesday.

In summary, the Texas Rangers have made history by becoming the first team in almost five decades to have five position players starting in the All-Star Game. This achievement highlights the strength and talent of the Rangers’ lineup and solidifies their dominant presence in the game. Meanwhile, injuries have unfortunately sidelined Aaron Judge and Mike Trout, preventing them from participating in the highly anticipated event.
