The Los Angeles Rams’ hopes for a triumphant start to the season have been dashed with the news that star wide receiver Cooper Kupp may end up on injured reserve. Despite already ruling out Kupp for the season opener against the Seattle Seahawks, head coach Sean McVay revealed that there is a “definite possibility” this could be the outcome for the talented player.
The Race Against Time
McVay disclosed that the Rams have until Saturday to determine whether or not Kupp will be placed on injured reserve. If this decision is made, Kupp will be forced to sit out for a minimum of the first four games of the regular season. This unfortunate turn of events comes after Kupp injured his left hamstring during a training camp practice on August 1. Although it seemed like a routine setback at first, the injury has proven more problematic than expected.
Searching for Answers
In his quest to find answers and a solution for Kupp’s lingering hamstring issues, McVay sent the receiver to a specialist in Minnesota. The hope is that this visit will shed light on the root cause of the problem, ultimately leading to a full recovery. McVay expressed his desire to see Kupp return to his previous form, remarking, “[We’re] trying to continue to get a grasp on exactly what it is so that he can get back to feeling like the Cooper that we know and love.”
Other Potential Losses
While Kupp’s potential move to injured reserve is a devastating blow for the Rams, he is not the only one facing this uncertain fate. Rookie quarterback Stetson Bennett and tight end Hunter Long are also being considered as candidates for injured reserve due to their respective injuries. This is not the first time Kupp has faced adversity in his football career. In the 2022 season, he suffered an ankle injury that prematurely ended his campaign after Week 10. Prior to that, Kupp had showcased his exceptional skills on the field with an impressive stat line of 75 catches for 812 yards and six touchdowns in just nine games. The previous year, he even secured the NFL’s triple crown of receiving, leading the league in catches, receiving yards, and touchdowns.
