The Winnipeg Jets were dealt a blow in their first-round Western Conference playoff series against the Vegas Golden Knights when star forward Mark Scheifele was forced to leave the game in the first period of Game 4 due to an upper-body injury. The Jets went on to suffer a 4-2 loss, falling behind 3-1 in the series.
Scheifele is Day-to-Day and Feeling Better
Despite the setback, there may be some hope for the Jets. According to Winnipeg coach Rick Bowness, Scheifele is day-to-day with his injury and could suit up for Game 5. Bowness told reporters on Tuesday that Scheifele was feeling better than he did the previous night and is in the hopeful category for Thursday’s game.
Benefit of Two Days Off Before Game 5
The Jets have the benefit of a two-day break before Game 5 as the series shifts back to Las Vegas. This additional time off could be crucial for Scheifele’s recovery and give him a better chance of returning to the ice.
Scheifele’s Importance to the Jets
Scheifele is a key player for the Jets, leading the team in the regular season with a career-high 42 goals and 26 assists in 81 games. Despite his injury, he had already scored one goal in the series against Vegas before being sidelined.
The Jets are also missing All-Star defenseman Josh Morrissey and forward Nikolaj Ehlers due to injuries. Morrissey has been ruled out for the series, while Ehlers’ status remains uncertain. The Jets will need all hands on deck if they hope to overcome their 3-1 deficit and keep their playoff hopes alive.
