Rays Pitcher Drew Rasmussen Placed on 60-Day Injured List

The Tampa Bay Rays have suffered yet another blow to their pitching staff, with Drew Rasmussen being placed on the 60-day injured list due to a flexor strain in his right arm. Despite hopes to avoid Tommy John surgery, which he has undergone twice before, Rasmussen will be out of the game for some time. The injury came as a surprise after his impressive seven shutout innings against the New York Yankees on Thursday night.

Unexpected Injury After Standout Performance

Rasmussen had struck out seven and allowed only two hits during the game, throwing 56 of his 76 pitches for strikes. However, he noticed something was wrong when his velocity decreased and his pitches lost their usual shape during the seventh inning. After reporting the issue to his team, manager Kevin Cash decided to pull the starter. Rasmussen reported that the injury was not severe pain, but more of a nerve sensitivity issue that flared up during the game.

Continued String of Injuries for Rays Pitching Staff

Rasmussen’s injury is just one of many that the Rays have faced this season. The team has already lost closer Pete Fairbanks to right forearm inflammation, starter Jeffrey Springs to Tommy John surgery, and Tyler Glasnow has not pitched this season due to a sore oblique since spring training. In response to Rasmussen’s injury, the Rays have called up righty Chris Muller from Triple-A Durham, where he had a 3.71 ERA in 14 games. Despite the setbacks, the Rays remain committed to overcoming these challenges and fighting on in the season.
