Lionel Messi’s time with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has officially come to an end. The Argentine’s contract was set to expire in June, and despite initial agreements to continue playing with the club, recent events have led to a fracture in their relationship.
The final straw
Messi was suspended for two weeks after missing a training session to fulfill sponsorship obligations in Saudi Arabia. As a result, he will not receive payment nor be allowed to train or play with the first team. This suspension marks a significant departure from PSG’s lenient approach towards their star players and sets a precedent for future disciplinary action.
Prior to this incident, Messi’s future with PSG was already in question. The club reportedly asked him to take a pay cut and there were doubts about his performance in the Champions League.
With his contract expiring, teams such as Inter Miami, Barcelona, and Al Hilal have shown interest in signing the 35-year-old player. While Messi’s family desires a return to Barcelona, the club’s financial struggles make this a difficult possibility. Al Hilal is the only team to have made an offer thus far.
